Stunning piece.
Love the softness and colors of the sky, and all those details of the ships and water. Such a nice atmosphere.

That's a lot of wind for such a placid sea. :)

I reckon if you did an occlusion pass on the ships and mashed it on top of this render in photoshop, it would give a much stronger sense of depth to the ships.

That should have been ""prohibitive"...

...I need a keeper.

Yes, it is. I considered "parking" the ships (furled sails), but I like the billow. Frankly, I find the lack of crew on-deck and in the rigging for more odd than the smooth sea and full sails! :D

I keep considering "postwork", but I figure that I'd have to put the stuff in "photo-manipulation" or somewhere else other than 3D to be honest... and to be honest here, Bryce will provide the lighting and shadow effects, but at a cost in render time (esp. on a 1.6ghz, 1.5gb gateway laptop :) ) that makes "prohitive" a true understatement.

I tend to go for false beauty over real photorealistic way too often :(

Yes.

Bryce 6.3 I've been using Bryce since Bryce3d and it consistently turns out pleasant graphics, imo.
